A Warwickshire pub has won acclaim for the quality of its food offer.

The Stag at Offchurch, near Leamington Spa, has been named winner of the Best Food Pub for the West Midlands and Wales region in the Great British Pub Awards 2014.

Run by general manager Lizzie Harris, the CD Pubs venue beat off the challenge of numerous pubs throughout the region to claim the title.

The awards are organised by leading pub industry magazine, the Publican’s Morning Advertiser.

Its editor Rob Willock says: “The award recognises pubs that have a quality food offer and where food sales are a core part of their business success.”

“Head chef Gavin Allcock and his team are passionate about the food they make and serve, and it shows through in the cooking.”

Allcock, a former Game Chef of the Year, has evolved a ‘classic Anglo-French style’ of food during his time at the pub.

Recent initiatives include a pop-up pub at a local food festival, new crockery bought to complement the summer menu, and a refurbished conservatory.

The Stag will now go forward to the Great British Pub Awards 2014 national final, held at the Hilton Hotel, Park Lane, London, on Thursday September 11th.

It will go head to head with other regional winners for the UK title ‘Best Food Pub 2014’ and also have the opportunity to compete for the overall champions of champions title of ‘Great British Pub of the Year 2014’.
